 Munich is also a popular place to stay. However, at certain times of the year, accommodation within the city of Munich is in great demand and as a result, many hotels can be come rather busy.
During the summer months and peak tourism season, lodging in Munich is especially popular and to capitalise on this increase in demand, many hotels inflate their prices slightly. However, during Munich's famous Oktoberfest, at the Theresienwiese, hotel rates shoot up and accommodation becomes scarce, meaning that you should book well before you travel here.

Hostels always provide the cheapest accommodation in Munich and whilst basic, they are perfect for budget travellers looking to save money. The most popular hostels lie on the north-western side of Munich and within the vibrant district of Neuhausen.
Also worth noting, there are plenty of reasonably priced hotels to be found around the Hauptbahnhof train station. This area is brimming with accommodation options and as such, most rates are fairly competitive. For the largest selection of luxury, top-end accommodation, be sure to check out the historic Old Town (Altstadt) area of Munich, where popular choices include the Hotel Advokat along Baaderstrasse, and the Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten München on Maximilanstrasse, where you will find a particularly inviting rooftop swimming pool.
Further hotels of all descriptions can be found around Munich's Haidhausen, Ludwigsvorstadt, Maxvorstadt, Schwanthaler Höhe and Westend districts, together with the Nymphenburg region, where accommodation is close to the spectacular 17th-century Schloss Nymphenburg castle. Many hotels and budget hostels are situated on the south-western outskirts, especially around the Meisingstrasse boulevard and Thalkirchen suburb. Also in this part of Munich, the Campingplatz Thalkirchen camping site is a popular option and stands off the Zentralländstrasse, next to the Isar River.
